Biciklističke storyteling staze Bol Brač

Cycling on Brač is not just a sport, but also a way to experience the island from a new perspective. Roads and trails lead through olive groves, vineyards, stone hamlets, and along the coast whose colors change with the daylight. The Bol area offers the most opportunities, with routes heading east, west, and into the mountainous center of the island.

Cycling trails Bol and Brač

To the west – via Murvica and back

The ride west of Bol starts by the sea, from Zlatni Rat beach, passing through Murvica and gradually climbing inland. The first section is gentle and relaxed, followed by an ascent that tests endurance – switchbacks above the sea lead towards the green slopes. At the top, the route connects with the road stretching towards Vidova Gora, where the view embraces Zlatni Rat, Hvar, and the open sea. The descent back to Bol is pure pleasure, with long curves and the scent of pine trees.

The eastern side – from the Dominican Monastery to the coves

The eastern route begins in the very center of Bol, heading towards the Glavica peninsula, where the Dominican Monastery is located. From there, the trail follows the coastline eastward, passing quiet beaches and hidden coves, before gradually climbing inland. The easier version of the route stays closer to the coast, while the more demanding variant turns towards the hills and offers the chance to ascend Vidova Gora from this side. Along the way, views alternate between the sea and olive groves, and in spring and early summer, the air is filled with the scent of rosemary and lavender.

Vidova Gora – the roof of the Adriatic

At 780 meters above sea level, Vidova Gora is an essential highlight of every cycling adventure on Brač. The climb can be tackled from several directions – from Bol via Murvica or from the Nerežišća side. The trail combines asphalt sections and forest paths, and at the top awaits a panoramic view you will never forget.

The whole of Brač – a challenge for the experienced

For those who want to see it all, it is possible to combine several sections and make a loop around almost the entire island. This means a change of landscape every few kilometers – from the coastline to mountain villages, from white Brač stone to dense pine forests. These rides are best suited for experienced cyclists, ready for longer distances and greater elevation gains.

Tips for cycling

  • Plan your route and check the weather forecast, especially in summer.
  • Bring enough water – not every trail has sources along the way.
  • For gravel and mountain sections, an MTB or gravel bike is recommended.
  • Maps and GPS tracks can be helpful, especially on less marked sections.
